Anyone want to do a RECIPE CIRCLE JOURNAL?????
I have been intrigued by a Circle Journal that I saw of my one of my friends and also the Circle Journals posted on SM Website. So thought I would start one here if you are interested. One of our smaller group challenges was Debs mini album was initially meant to be a recipe challenge so her idea gave me this idea (thanks Debs), I thought a Recipe Circle Journal would be fabulous with all of our favourites receipes been shared with each other. I love cooking, I love eating nice food and I love sharing recipes that are tried and true, recipes that have been handed down from generation to generation, so what a better way to share each others tried and true recipes.
Firstly please bear in mind that I am also new to this but I will endeavour to run it as smoothly as I can to avoid disappointment, but please feel free to email me if you have any concerns, ideas or suggestions.
1. Each journal will be personal to yourself, you can do whatever journal you wish as long as it is recipe related, for example ... a dessert recipe journal, vegetarian, summer salads, anything chocolate (title = Death by Chocolale), evening meals, cocktails, entree, mixture of anything and everything, you decide what your title will be and the ladies receiving your journal will decorate a page and place their favourite recipe on it. Before you all send off your journals you must complete a title page, back page and sign in page and instructions on how you want your journal to look or the contents to go in it before posting it off ... for example I am going to ask for a small photo (passport size) of yourself and your name so that when I look though my journal I will remember who it came from. If you can fit more than one recipe on a page that would be great also.
2. Please do not make any journal bigger than an A5 would probably be best - the weight and dimensions if you create a larger journal will mean it will cost quite a bit more packaging and postage and not everyone can afford to send costly journals out. You can make your own journal out of cardstock and rings, purchase an already made chipboard album, I think I read somewhere where a paper bag journal was put together. Your imagination is your best friend! This doesn't have to cost the earth.
3. To avoid any holds up I will be running this strictly with time frames to complete and send off each journal and I will do it stage by stage with around a 2-3 week turn around to receive, complete and post off the journal, this way it will be completed quickly. I will edit this top page so always check back here to see where each stage is at, i.e. I will have the next completion date, etc. I will also have a list of names and where each journal is so that I can keep a track of the status of each of your journals. Any queries please feel free to post here or PM me.
4. Definitely if you cannot commit to this turnaround please do not sign up as it would be disappointing for someone not to receive their completed journals. I understand that sometimes life throws us a curve ball and we have to allow for some issues so I ask that you inform me if you think that you are going to have an issue so that together we can find a solution.
5. If you wish to be part of a fun exchange of recipes, please PM your name and what your journal title/theme will be and I will post it back here on this original first post. I think to avoid costly postage costs I think only 10-12 people would be best to avoid a heavy item being posted.
Happy scrapping!!!!

Re: Anyone want to do a RECIPE CIRCLE JOURNAL?????
can I make a suggestion based on previous CJ's I've been in
If there is a set size and everyone knows what the CJ's is about then it is sometimes best just to do each person's page and mail it directly to them to assemble into their book. Postage is cheaper than mailing an entire book.

I had to smile to myself when I read that he....he!
I agree with Kristie's idea, that sounds good if everyone did it that way & then we would all have a little bit of everyone in our albums. I recently bought a chipboard album from Spotlight- spiral type 8 x 10"- Bella Chipboard Bookz is the name of it. I think I paid $4.95 for it. Was wondering what to do with it lol! I do things like that- buy something I like & hoard it for when I get an idea of what to use it for lol! I think it will be perfect for my CJ Recipe Album.
I'm not fussy about which recipes I would have in mine, I would just like 1 or 2 favs from everyone- don't forget, you can make a hidden recipe holder behide your page- allowing for room for it to be adhered of course- that way, you could do a few recipes lol!
Anyways, that's my thoughts

Debs yes .... LOL @ me .. yes it is and I have edited it!!! Debs everyone does a page in your journal, if there are 10 people your book gets sent to 9 and then returned to you. I agree with making a pocket and putting more than one recipe in if it has room to do so. Great minds think alike, lol.
Kirsten great idea too but I would like everyone to sign in on the sign in page. I like the idea of set sizes but it then limits everyone to having the same and I would like people to have a choice in what they decide their journal will be, but I do like the idea of sending one page each but that will mean you will get all 9 pages at once if there are 10 people in the circle and that maybe daunting for some people and I may not be able to track where everyones journal is. So I will keep with the original plan and thanks for your comments very much appreciated.
Thanks ladies! So far it you, you and me!!! lol

Hi Babes, I think- if you have a list of everyone doing it & what size their jounals would be, would be so much easier to reference & what kind of journal
eg-: Deb's CJ- Fav Recipes- Album size- 8' x 10" size pages required
Get my drift or Deb is off drifting with the fairies lol!

Re: Anyone want to do a RECIPE CIRCLE JOURNAL?????
Shez - I reckon make it no bigger than A5 - A4 gets too bulky - especially after its been around the circle and all of the embellies ets are added!
And deb - Even if you know the album size - you still have to account for spirals or rings or binding of the album, which is usually pretty hard to estimate - as long as you dont put anything too close to the inner side though it should be ok.
And Shez - count me in!
If you need any help during, let me know, I can send you my roster etc for you to have a look at too if it helps!

Elle, you can use your idea on your own personal album, state on what page of your journal you want a entree, main, main, dessert etc. Are you joining in Elle? Would love to have you onboard!

Re: Anyone want to do a RECIPE CIRCLE JOURNAL?????
Adnchic welcome aboard Darl ... your page will be fine as I know it will be scrapped from your heart, and its not about the best pages its about doing something together and leaving a piece of you in each journal .... sometimes we are hard on ourselves and think our work isn't good enough to do different things .. I thought that when I was part of the original Challenge Chicks Challenges ... if it wasn't for that I would never have learnt to try new things and progressed. Looking forward to seeing your page in my journal!

Re: Anyone want to do a RECIPE CIRCLE JOURNAL?????
will there be a limit to how many recipes we can put in?? i know we only have a few weeks with each book, but will they only go around once??
i have a feeling i may be more motivated some weeks than others, depends on whats going on at uni (where i currently am, sitting in the library like a good girl....and the fact that brisbane has stolen some of the victorian cold weather for the day)

Re: Anyone want to do a RECIPE CIRCLE JOURNAL?????
Elle, you will get one journal per fortnight, so that is only one page you have to do each fortnight. If you are not sure if you can commit now would be the time to let me know as I would like to journals to get in and out on time as if there are nine people to get around that is 18 weeks to complete this circle journal and if I make it longer period then it is even longer before everyone gets their journal, hope that makes sense to you. I will be making up a roster so that I know where every book it, when it arrived and when it was sent and that way I can keep you all informed as well.
You can put as many recipes as you like but remember if the album gets too bulky then it might not fit the rings.
I hope you can commit, I would love you to be part of this journal but if you think you can't, I dear say in the future there will be other ways that may have different guidelines that will suit your hectic life at uni, I don't want to add any more stress for you Darl!
Cheers
